  • HOW DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL WORK?

Laser surgery is based upon the selective absorption of light: certain colors absorb different energies, or wavelengths, of light. In laser tattoo removal, the physician selects a laser based upon the color of the tattoo ink. He or she then rapidly pulses the laser light at a very high energy over the tattoo, causing the ink to break apart and naturally filtrate out of the skin. Because the light is selectively absorbed by the tattoo ink, the surrounding skin is unharmed and patients are left without scarring. Laser technology is the safest and most effective means for removing unwanted tattoos.

  • HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

The complete treatment of a patient’s tattoo is a gradual process, and the total number of treatments is based upon several factors. These include the color, amount, and skin depth of the tattoo ink. The quality of the tattoo can also impact the number of treatments. Professional tattoos, which often use more ink and penetrate more deeply, typically require more than six treatments. Amateur tattoos usually require three to six treatments. On occasion, complete fading of the tattoo is not achieved. In these cases, the vast majority of ink is removed and patients are typically satisfied with the results.

  • SUCCESS OF LASER TATTOO REMOVAL

Like the number of treatments, the success of laser tattoo removal is impacted by the ink used. In many cases, the tattoo will completely disappear. In some cases, a remnant of the tattoo will persist. Even though this is a powerful procedure, the surrounding skin is left unharmed, and any discomfort is eliminated with local anesthesia.
