Learn more about Injectable Fillers for Wrinkles

Over the course of a lifetime, the skin changes significantly. It shifts in color, texture, and overall uniformity. But the hallmark of aging is wrinkles— and the deepest of these are facial folds.

Facial folds may be a natural and unavoidable part of the aging process, but they do not have to be permanent. Matthew R Kelleher, MD specializes in treating these deep wrinkles and restoring the patients’ youthful appearance.

  • What are facial folds?

With age, the face gradually loses pockets of fat and collagen. These tissues are essential for facial fullness and create the overall softness and shape of a youthful face. Without them, deep folds, sagging, and hollowing will develop.

  • Treating facial folds and wrinkles with JUVÉDERM® - VOLUMA™, VOLBELLA™ and VOLLURE™

In order to reduce these signs of aging, the lost volume must be reintroduced into the face. This is best achieved through injectable fillers of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found within the body. It is an ideal volumizer because it attracts water molecules, thereby “plumping” the areas that once contained fat and collagen. Additionally, hyaluronic acid stimulates the creation of collagen and elastin, two proteins that contribute to facial volume and skin’s elasticity.

At Premier Dermatology, Juvéderm® products are the preferred injectable fillers because of their safety, smooth consistency, malleability, and superior results. Juvéderm® products are most often used on the nasolabial folds, the creases that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth. They can also be used in the cheeks, chin, around the eyes, temples, and lips.

  • What to expect

Most patients experience no side effects with filler treatment, but if they do, these typically last no more than 7 days. Such side effects may include mild to moderate discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, and bumps at injection sites. Because of these minimal side effects and overall ease of treatment, patients can resume normal activity immediately.
